Where do you put acoustic foam?

When installing acoustic foam, generally position acoustic panels on the walls and place bass traps in the corners of the room.

How many acoustic panels do you need to soundproof a room?

Panel quantity depends on room size, windows/doors, and shape (L/square rooms need more). Use our calculator counting here ►

What are the types of acoustic foams?

There are 4 most common types of acoustic foams for soundproofing: Pyramid, Wedge, Eggcrate, Bass Trap. We also offer new styles of acoustic foam such as wall panel, Hemisphere grid shape and acoustic art panels.

How to install acoustic foam step by step?

Step 1: Restore Vacuumed Acoustical Treatment Foam

Follow the instruction in this video to extract the acoustic foam

Step 2: Locate the Acoustic Foam For Outline

Distribute studio foam evenly throughout the room for your application.

Step 3: Resize the Acoustic Foam To Best Fit

Measure and cut foam around obstacles (beams, doorways).
Replace foam on the surface.
Lightly mark the foam's outline with a pencil for straight application.

Step 4: Apply Arrowzoom Tape or Glue the Acoustic Foam with Adhesive Spray

Double-Sided Tape: Use 4 pieces of tape per foam, one in each corner.
Construction Adhesive: Apply adhesive around the edge (1.5" from the border) and in an "X" pattern across the center.

Step 5: Hang the Acoustic Foam With The Marked Line

Align foam with marked lines and press firmly to compress. Repeat for all pieces.

Yes, but won't completely block sound. Overlap edges for best results.

No, these are for echo damping, not blocking outside noise.

5. Panel size?

Large squares, 50cm x 50cm (19.6 in x 19.6 in).

6. Use for recording studio?

Improves sound isolation, but won't fully soundproof the room.

7. Can I paint them?

Not recommended, it affects performance. Buy different colors instead.

8. Can I use them outdoors?

No, rain, sun, dust, and dirt will damage the foam.

9. What are they made of?

Lightweight open-celled polyurethane, polyester, or melamine foam.

10. How to arrange with monitors?

Group on opposite wall or spread evenly. Check YouTube for ideas.

11. Are they flame retardant?

Yes.

12. Will they dampen my voice?

Yes, substantially, depending on room size.

13. Will they block subwoofer bass?

Not really, use Bass Trap Foam instead.

14. Can they be cut/altered?

Yes, quite easily.

15. Sound Absorption Test?

Yes, the foams undergo testing after manufacturing.

What's the difference between impact and airborne noise? 🔊

1. Airborne Noise

This travels through the air, like conversations, TV sounds, or barking dogs. When sound waves hit a building, they cause it to vibrate, transmitting through the structure.

2. Impact Noise

This results from physical impacts on buildings, such as footsteps, slamming doors, or moving furniture. Impact noise can be harder to isolate, as these vibrations are stronger and travel further through dense materials.

What are decibels? 📏

Decibels are measured logarithmically (not as a percentage) . This means that every increase of 10dB on the scale is a tenfold increase in sound pressure level (SPL) . Near silence is 0dB 🤫, while a sound at 10dB is ten times louder!

30-40 dB = Soft music, whisper 🎶
60-80 dB = Office noise, traffic 🚗
85-100 dB (HARMFUL) = Subway, shouted convo, chainsaw ⚠️
100-140 dB (DANGEROUS) = Chainsaw, loud concert, racing, shooting range 🚨
